A Seasonal Favorite - The Festival of Trees at the Muskegon Museum of Art

In as much as most are still a little shocked to see the Christmas stuff out on shelves the day after Halloween at major retailers, there is a place where it's not all that overwhelming to see the first hints of the holiday season start to pop up and give you and your family a chance to take a look at some seasonal decor that will begin to set the mood.  You;ll find a great theme this year at the Festival of Trees at the Muskegon Museum of Art.

Professionally decorated trees with a backdrop of vintage Downtown Muskegon holiday scenes and a vast array of special events to compliment the beautiful setting and peaceful surroundings of the Muskegon Museum of Art.  You'll find raffles, music, great shopping ideas as well as popular events like the Teddy Bear Breakfast, Senior Day, Family Day, the Deck Your Halls Holiday Design Workshop and two very special performances of A Christmas Carol.

It all gets underway with the Festival of Trees preview party for sponsors and volunteers on November 16th and it runs for 10 days after that with all of the great events mentioned above.  It's a great chance to get out and see what can be done by gifted people who devote so much time and energy to their art.

Think back.  Think back to the days that will be featured here in the Festival of Trees.  The vintage Downtown Holiday theme that Muskegon once knew.  The feeling is still there in the hearts and minds of the people here, however smaller the decor is around town.  I'd like you to think back too to the days when your mom and dad insisted that you drop what you were doing and go experience a little art and culture.  It's essential for our kids today to be a part of traditional holiday cheer and community events that let them see a brighter side of community.  Make sure that you afford them the same opportunities your parents did for you.... that way, when the commercialization of Christmas happens earlier and earlier every year...they'll know that there's much more to it than a Black Friday deal.

Shop Small with Holidays in the City

I was able to catch up with Marguerite Curran of the Muskegon Museum of Art to get a little advance peek and share the story with you.  Take a listen to our chat below.

Simply put.  It's connecting our future with our past.  Our kids need to know what was and as Muskegon continues to prepare for it's future we need people who will one day remember that in 2016 their parents made a family day out of a trip to the art museum to get a dose of culture and class in them..and they'll bring their kids there just like you did.  It's how we protect our past...and plan for our future!!
